Melanie’s New Video

May 23, 2008

Melanie Bowles, who spoke at our April meeting, has a new video posted on YouTube. It'll give you some idea of what her Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary family is all about. The video is also an example of why some people (including me) think a herd of horses running free is just about the most beautiful sight anyone could ask for. At least it is for those of us who love animals in general and horses in particular. Check it out at:

Flex 3 Remoting Error - Channel.Call.Failed

May 23, 2008

I was setting up a new Flex3 project on my Mac using ColdFusion 8 and Flash Remoting and ran into the following error when calling the remote object: [RPC Fault faultString="error" faultCode="Channel.Call.Failed" faultDetail="NetConnection.Call.Failed: HTTP: Failed"] The call and path to the CFCs was correct so I thought it might have something to do with server configuration. I searched the internets for a similar error message but could not find any relevant results. I was stumped as I have other Flex 3 / Flash Remoting projects running on the same machine. I setup a test project and moved the CFC to a directory that worked with another project and the call was successful. Since the CFC and Flash Remoting was working properly the issue had something to do with the directory I was using. I then realized that the CFCs were buried within an existing ColdFusion project and there were perhaps some security issues. Solution: I added a blank application.cfm file into the directory where my CFC lived and that did the trick.

I guess it's good to tell your story...

Waste Management landfills provide lots of wildlife habitat. Not sure where it is but I hope they wouldn't say it if it was not true...

Might also help if they worked hard to keep stuff out of the landfills... lots of opportunity to recycle stuff "we" throw away.

Cutting down nature to save nature

May 18, 2008

Here is a nice large pine tree in Laurel Park. It no longer exists.

Seems the developer of the property has a plan for a house with solar panels on the roof. The pine tree was deemed to be a hiderance as it would shade the solar panel.

Removal was the only option.

Thus nature was cut down and removed so we could save the planet....

[A similar action in California sparked worldwide attention recently.]
